I like to think of DA-SH as a well kept secret, that when revealed is like a pleasant and totally unexpected surprise, like a pearl inside a clam, or a second serving of fries that you didn’t order at McDonalds, but you’re still stoked to get.
Coming out of Perth, Western Australia, ‘Phoenix’ is the second single from this rock outfit that primarily consists of Ashlie Woods (vocals) & David Thompson (guitar).
A dash is a horizontal line in between words, but you don’t have to read between the lines with this DA-SH, as their intent is front and center, and their heart is stapled prominently on their sleeve.
Just like previous single ‘See You Later’, ‘Phoenix’ is a study in enduring a past trauma, but yet somehow managing to rise above it and move on, despite the lasting damage that’s been inflicted.
Woods is a tattooed hellion of a singer, that spits out these clearly personal lyrics with such ferocity and venom, that you almost feel the need to apologize to her for whatever wrongs that were perpetrated against her, such is the convincing and captivating way in which she performs.
The old adage “Hell Hath No Fury Like A Woman Scorned” has never been truer than on ‘Phoenix’.
This is a heads down, straightforward, no mucking around rock anthem that hits its target like a dagger thrown by an assassin, striking true with no mercy.
With a monstrous chorus that sucks the listener in and holds them in thrall, ‘Phoenix’ is yet another impressive example of what DA-SH is capable of, which is only more impressive considering the fact that this is only the band’s second single.
Keep your eye on DA-SH, because I believe this is only the beginning of something very special!
