Melbourne's Eat The Damn Orange are the undisputed masters of effortlessly taking the piss, and yet are still able to craft infinitely listenable songs without resorting to out and out parody, à la Steel Panther.
It's a very difficult line to walk, but ETDO manage to pull it off time and time again.
With tongue firmly wedged within cheek, their latest single 'Gloryhole Nightmare' delivers exactly what it says on the label, a tale of the pitfalls and repercussions of sticking something where it doesn't belong.
Coming straight out of the twisted mind of Guitarist, Brendan Nelissen, 'Gloryhole Nightmare' follows in the proud tradition of previous single 'Blue Balls', and is perfectly suited to the band's feisty and downright mischievous lead singer, Tash Vargas.
Vargas sings up a storm, and the band power into a near psychotic frenzy as they wreck havoc while clearly having the time of their lives.
I wanted to give 'Gloryhole Nightmare' a higher rating out of 10, but unfortunately I couldn't, as I have a criticism about the production. Tim White is an outstanding drummer, yet the drum sound is buried in the mix. This is a shame, as the track doesn't sparkle as brightly as it should, and pushing the drums further to the fore would've given the song the extra swing and drive it needs, and provided the momentum it lacks.
Nevertheless, 'Gloryhole Nightmare' is equal parts fun, hilarious, and hard rocking!
(*Editor's note* - No actual penises were harmed during the production of 'Gloryhole Nightmare')
