Sydney’s RedHook are a complicated beast.
A hybrid. An amalgam.
A riddle wrapped inside an enigma that’s sealed inside a conundrum, that’s candy coated on the outside, with a vortex at the center of it’s pitch black heart.
To put it simply, the average RedHook track seems straightforward on first listen, but every subsequent listen sends you further down a rabbit-hole that even the inhabitants of Wonderland would struggle to get their heads around.
The band’s latest single, ‘Bad Decisions’ does not deviate from the group’s devious masterplan one iota.
It's a simple enough premise…….a song about a hopeless fuck up that makes the wrong choice again…...and again…...and again. It seems like a throw away song on the outside, but the simplest of premises are often more than meets the eye.
Dig a little deeper, and ‘Bad Decisions’ reads like a blow by blow account of many angry and directionless people that make a bad choice and exacerbate the situation until they spiral down into a self perpetuating cycle of self destruction. This rings all too true, especially after the last year that we’ve had.
Putting all of that to one side, ‘Bad Decisions’ is still a glorious free fall of a song, that lifts you up as high as it can go upon the strength of pounding and relentless hard driven verses, before dropping you head first into a chorus that will smack you in the face like a concrete slab after a descent from 10,000 feet, all while vocalist Emmy Mack spits the lyrics into your ear like a cobra with a vendetta!
RedHook have built themselves a reputation for taking no prisoners, and on ‘Bad Decisions’, no one’s getting out of here alive!! Make a good decision and add this song to your collection!
