The Mercy Kills have been a mainstay on the local Melbourne scene ever since they came screaming out of St Kilda in the mid 2000's, ready to plant their flag onto the local rock terrain, and their collective boots squarely onto your throats!
Which is why it's a mystery that it's taken so long for the band's latest EP 'New Rule' to come out, as it was originally meant to be released back in 2010.
Why there's been an 11 year gap between original and final release dates quickly becomes irrelevant after dropping the needle on 'New Rule', as it's snarling punk and sleaze aesthetic still lands with the impact that was intended.
Proceedings kick off with a rumble then a bang, as 'I Wanna' slithers it's way into your subconscious with guitar stabs and electronica just under the surface!
Title track 'New Rule' follows with its middle finger held aloft, and it's attitude firmly in your face!
'So Many Times' is an upbeat punk rocker, with lead vocalist Mark E barking the lyrics like a deranged dictator ordering his followers to storm the gates!
'Fall' is a frenetic free for all, with a smash mouth chorus that demands your attention, and gives you zero choice!
Final track, 'Go' starts slow and sleazy, sliding into your ears and wrapping itself around your soul. A slow burner, like the wick on a Molotov cocktail!
At only 5 songs and 18 minutes, 'New Rule' neither outstays its welcome, nor wastes a second, filling every moment with havoc and mayhem!
Now go start a riot!!
